Feminist Scholars Fellowship

The Center for Research on Gender & Women sponsors the annual Feminist Scholars Fellowship competition. The fellowship is designed to provide tenured University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty a full-time research appointment for one semester. The Center will finance the salary and fringes up to $11,000.00 for a lecturer replacement to cover the applicant’s teaching responsibilities.

Eligibility: Tenured faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison engaged in feminist research. Faculty in the College of Letters & Science are granted a semester’s release from teaching, with Gender and Women’s Studies paying for one course lecturer replacement. Individuals with appointments outside L&S must receive the approval of their Dean to have a full semester’s release from teaching (with one course lecturer replacement, paid up to $11,000.00, by the Center for Research on Gender & Women as described above).

Scholars may reapply after five years of receiving an award; however, scholars who have not previously won the award will be prioritized should the applications be regarded as equally meritorious.

Requirements: The fellow is required to remain in residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the semester. The fellow will be expected to make a presentation near the end of the resident semester.

Applications should include:

  1. 1,500 words (double-spaced) research proposal
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. Letter from department chair indicating that the department is willing to release the applicant from teaching responsibilities for the semester
  4. Letter of approval from Dean if applicant is not in the College of Letters & Science (see eligibility)

Applicants should indicate the semester for which they are requesting the fellowship.

Application: Please send application materials and letters via email to the Center for Research on Gender & Women at ruchdoll@wisc.edu.

Applications due: Saturday, February 15, 2025 @ 11:59 pm.

Criteria for selection: The significance, originality, and innovation of the proposal; the potential contribution of the proposed research to feminist scholarship; and the applicant’s scholarly record.
