John Clarence De Cleene Scholarship

The John Clarence De Cleene Scholarship supports one or more graduate or undergraduate students who are United States Citizens or permanent residents and studying in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies. Preference will be given to students with interests in Political Science, and/or government programs with the potential to enhance gender diversity.

Applications due: Sunday, February 15, 2026 @ 11:59 pm

Eligibility: 

Graduate students who:

  • are conducting research in a field related to sexual diversity,
  • are conducting research in political science or government programs that have the potential to enhance gender diversity
  • have a demonstrated interest in a career in federal or state government

Undergraduate students (sophomore, junior, or senior) who:

  • are majoring in LGBTQ Studies
  • are majoring in political science or government programs that have the potential to enhance gender diversity
  • have a demonstrated interest in a career in federal or state government

Application: Please submit application materials via Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).

The application should include the following (please combine them into a single PDF, if possible)

  1. An essay (up to 600 words) on your research in LGBTQ+ studies, gender, and/or sexual diversity.
  2. A resume
  3. Complete transcripts from UW-Madison (unofficial transcripts accepted)

Award: The one-year award will provide a stipend of $800, which will be awarded at the end of the Spring semester to be used during the following academic year.
