Regina Fuller Receives Hobbins Award: Spring 2021

Regina FullerRegina Fuller has received the Deborah A. Hobbins Graduate Student Award in Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice for her project, “Debating sexuality: Sexual ideologies, gender, and education policy in Ghana.”

Regina Fuller is a doctoral candidate in Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in Comparative International Education and Global Studies. Her dissertation research, from 2018 to 2020 is an ethnographic study of debates surrounding the introduction and removal of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) policy in Accra, Ghana. She finds that battles over sex education brings to the fore larger concerns about normative sexuality, gender, culture, and religion.  Her research draws on critical development studies, anthropology and African feminism. Throughout her time at UW, Regina has consulted on education and health projects with the World Bank, Save the Children, UNFPA, and Population Reference Bureau. Ms. Fuller is a recipient of the Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral fellowship, the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Research Scholars (HPRS) fellowship, and a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Brazil.

Regina has a master’s in African Studies from the University of Ghana Legon and envisions a career centering issues of gender and sexuality in West Africa.
